Exterior Wall Insulation Types

An external wall insulation system or ewis is a thermally insulated protective decorative exterior cladding procedure involving the use of expanded polystyrene mineral wool polyurethane foam or phenolic foam topped off with a reinforced cement based mineral or synthetic finish and plaster.
Exterior wall insulation types. Foam board or insulating boards are rigid panels of insulation that have a high r value. Check garage walls and ceilings that are adjacent to conditioned spaces. Check behind knee walls which are walls between living spaces and the garage or attic. Once the insulation is in the wall and sealed up with drywall it is not easy to change out.
Exterior walls and floors. Turn off the electricity then remove an electrical outlet cover for a view of exterior insulation. They are very effective in exterior wall sheathing interior sheathing for basement walls and special applications such as attic hatches. They provide good thermal resistance up to 2 times greater than most other insulating materials of the same thickness and reduce heat conduction through structural elements like wood and steel studs.
Best for floors foundation and basement walls interior and exterior wall sheathing and low sloped ceilings. Installing this type of insulation is an inexpensive and diy friendly project since the materials are designed to fit into the standard width between wall studs attic rafters and floor joists.
